The Lightkeepers Guest House located in the historic district of
Ocracoke Island was constructed in 1929 from lumber gathered after the
wreck of the ship Victoria. The retiring lighthouse keeper needed a new
home for his family upon departing the keepers quarters at the Ocracoke
Lighthouse. Other than cosmetic alterations and some upgrading the house has remained unchanged and is very typical of an old island home. We do have A/C in the bedrooms and portions of the living area. A Guest House is similar to a bed and breakfast.
Instead of breakfast, all residents are welcome to bring groceries and
to use the kitchen for meal preparation at any time. There are 2
bedrooms which share a bath, and one bathroom with its own private bath. We also have a shower house w/ hot and cold water for after
the beach.
The Guest House is loaded with screened porches, small tables
and rocking chairs for privacy and serenity. A new porch off the living room and a remodel of the kitchen were completed in 2002. During the winter of 2004, sunrooms were added to downstairs bedroom 1 and 2. Bedroom 1 now has a private bath. The harbor is nearby and the lighthouse is just around the corner.

Room Descriptions: (Each downstairs room has a ceiling fan and portable
fans, the upstairs rooms have portable fans. The cupola has a large
ceiling fan that assists with upstairs air circulation)
Room 1: Located downstairs just off the front porch with a queen size bed. Also has its own private bath, sunroom and an A/C unit. It has lots of windows
and is light and inviting.
Room 2: Located downstairs on the other side of the bathroom, with one
double bed. This room also has its own private sunroom and an A/C unit. We have added a desk and bookcase to make this especially attractive to writers seeking a retreat setting. It is quiet and peaceful facing east to greet the morning sun.
Room 3: Located downstairs across from the bathroom, on the side of the
house facing the parking area. One double bed, old fashioned beaded
paneling make this room quite charming. Double windows provide lots of
air flow.
Room 4: Large suite upstairs with a newly (1995) constructed cupola
(12x12 ) accessible from the bedroom by a steep set of steps. Bedroom
has a double bed, with a small annex holding an additional cot for a
child or a small adult. The cupola has a single and a double futon
couch/bed and is an additional sleeping accommodation for Rm 4 residents
as well as a sitting room with views of the harbor, sound and
lighthouse. Single workshop participants may be asked to share this room
with others dormitory style.
Room 5: The only other bedroom upstairs, it has one double bed, the
old fashioned beaded paneling and a dormer style window. Very cozy and
pleasant room. The upstairs bathroom separates this room from Room 4.
Let us know your preferences when you register so that we may best accommodate your needs. We hope you participate in the community setting by staying in residence at the Lightkeepers. If you elect to find other accommodations, we will be glad to assist you in that process.
